Campus Party Europe, T-2 days

I’ve been invited to attend Campus Party Europe in Madrid which begins in a few days. Campus Party is a large science, internet and innovation conference/convent/lan-party that begun in Spain and spread overseas to Mexico and Latin America. Campus Party Europe is a special edition during the Spanish Presidency of the EU, and around 800 creatives from around europe have been invited.

I don’t exactly know what to expect, it seems like a mix of Dreamhack and a day’s worth of Discovery Channel, focusing on talks and workshops around creativity, science, innovation, hacking and robotics (cool).

Some highlights from the schedule

• Paul Bennet, Creative Director at IDEO will speak about Innovation
• Ben Hammersley, editor of Wired UK, will give a talk about “Redefining Everything”
• Automatic interpretation. Using virtual computer generated actors in movies, games and such is commonplace today, but what about theater and live performace? Robots as actors – sounds interesting!
• Toni Segarra talks about Digital Creativity. This guy co-founded SCPF, one of spains leading creative agencys with offices around the globe. Has won lots of lions.
• Oliviero Toscani is a photographer and the man behind the iconic advertising of Benetton and co-founder of the magazine “Colour” together with Tibor Kalman. He will talk about creativity.
• Sylwan Sebastian, head of Research and Development at Weta Digital will talk about the film Avatar and the future of Cinema.

I’m really excited and inspired, especially as this is not about the usual core webdesign stuff like HTML5 and managing clients. Instead it appears more about technology, internet culture and innovation in a greater scope and from a bleeding edge point of view. Always good  to widening the senses! Looking forward meeting some really interesting people in the coming days!
